Don’t let the line out the door deter you—the coffee at Rutina is worth the wait. Founded by a local family who taught themselves the art of espresso making, the Palm Desert café has quickly built a devoted following for its specialty coffee and welcoming, community-minded atmosphere. And community is a big part of the equation here. From World Cup viewing parties and listening events to donation drives, Rutina was intentionally created to feel like a second home. The bright, airy space certainly helps, with a warm minimalist design, sleek wood accents and, most notably, a tree growing right in the middle of the shop. Even the name—rutina is Spanish for “routine”—feels fitting for a place designed to become part of yours. As for what to order, I love the iced lattes, though the signature Pablo Latte—a sumptuous mix of espresso, condensed milk and panela (raw, unrefined sugar)—has a following all its own.
